Beaumaris is a beautiful town on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. It is home to a 13th century castle, as well as a number of other historic buildings. The town is situated on the Menai Strait, and has a population of around 3,000.
Beaumaris Castle was built in the 13th century by Edward I, as part of his campaign to conquer Wales. The castle is considered to be one of the finest examples of medieval military architecture in Europe. It was never completed, due to the outbreak of the Welsh rebellion of 1294.
The town of Beaumaris grew up around the castle, and prospered during the medieval period. It was an important market town, and was granted a charter by Edward III in 1346.
Beaumaris declined in importance during the post-medieval period, and by the 18th century it was little more than a village. However, it began to grow again in the 19th century, and today it is a thriving town with a population of around 3,000.
