The National Museum Wales has recently purchased a collection of works by the late British artist John Piper. The collection includes over 400 pieces of art, spanning Piper’s entire career from the 1920s to the 1980s. This is a significant acquisition for the museum, as it is the largest collection of Piper’s work in Wales.
Piper was a prolific artist, working in a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking, and stained glass. He is perhaps best known for his landscapes, which often incorporated elements of British architecture and history. Piper was also a leading figure in the British art scene in the mid-20th century, and was friends with many other notable artists, including Ben Nicholson and Henry Moore.
The National Museum Wales’s John Piper collection will be on display to the public from April 2014.
